Gold and platinum are purchased in a unit called pennyweight (dwt.) There are 20 dwt in a troy ounce. Refiners buy gold and platinum in this manner in order to more accurately judge the volume of the precious metals they are handling.
All items sent to AGSE will undergo an in-house appraisal process by our team of professional Gemologists, Numismatists and Assayers. During this process we will itemize everything that you send by weight, purity and value. This way you know exactly what you are selling and for how much.
AGSE professionals evaluate every item we receive for both its content in precious metals and its market potential. In most cases this will result in items being purchased for their content alone. But unlike others that only buy items as "scrap", we are active participants on both the buy and the sell side of the marketplace. Our team of professional Gemologists, Numismatists and Assayers never take short-cuts in the process of assessing each item. Occasionally our experts are able to pay a premium over "melt values" because we have ready secondary markets for unique items. We welcome the opportunity to pay more for higher quality items.
